Scotland Mountain Biking Trip

West Lancs Scouts Scotland Mountain Biking Trip

25th-27th October 2019

For our annual autumn biking weekend the West Lancs Mountain Bike Team is heading back to Dumfries & Galloway in southern Scotland. This area is a mecca for mountain biking with a number of great trail centres, known as the 7stanes. We aim to ride at least two of these trail centres over the weekend.

We plan to meet on Friday evening and depart Preston in the minibus which will be stopping to collect people from Lancaster to head up to our accommodation. We will have a full day riding on Saturday and half day riding on Sunday before returning home.

Accommodation

We will be staying at Open Gate Campsite, Low Auldgirth, Auldgirth, Dumfries, DG2 0XJ. The site has a camping barn so you will need to bring a tent; the tents can be pitched inside the barn. There is also a Bothy on site with cooking facilities and showers on site. We ask that everyone helps with the cooking and cleaning on site to help the weekend run smoothly.

Who is it for?
This event is aimed at Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members. Mountain biking involves a high level of physical exercise so participants should have a decent level of fitness. A good indicator is having done (and enjoyed!) mountain biking on County Camp or Gathering.
Places are limited to 16 participants so get your application in as soon as you can.

Cost
The total cost of the weekend, including transport, accommodation, meals and two days biking will be £50 This does not include mountain bike hire (see below for that). Please complete the registration form and pay for the weekend online at

Equipment
If you have your own bike helmet, great; if you have your own mountain bike, then even better! However these need to meet a satisfactory level of safety decided by the leaders. This isn’t going to be like biking round Worden Park! The team has mountain bikes for hire for the weekend if you don’t have your own, at an additional cost of £20 for the weekend, including a helmet.

A detailed kit list will be provided nearer the time but good items to have are a hydration pack, cycling gloves and padded shorts.
