Cleaner / General Assistant

Salary: National Minimum Wage

Location: Waddecar Scout Activity Centre, Preston, Lancashire

Hours: Minimum 8 hours per week over one or two days. Additional hours may be arranged during busy periods.

Contract Type: Part time.

Role Summary:

As the Cleaner / General Assistant you will responsible for the general cleaning of our accommodation and toilet blocks, ensuring that our guests and visitors have a pleasant stay.

Main duties will include: Cleaning the accommodation buildings to a high standard. Organising the cleaning equipment and supplies for the site. Identifying and reporting any areas requiring repair or replacement above and beyond the remit of the role.

Laundering of bed sheets when required. Ensuring that escape routes are clear and there is no build-up of flammable materials in or around the buildings. Any other cleaning/presentation jobs as required by the Centre Manager.

The major area of responsibility will be Helme Lodge, our 35 bed accommodation building, and the two toilet/shower blocks. In addition, other catering/accommodation/staff buildings need weekly cleaning. This will be arranged with the Centre manager and Activities & Facilities Supervisor in accordance with customer usage.

Waddecar Scout Activity Centre is owned and managed by West Lancashire Scouts and run in accordance with the ethos and values of The Scout Association. We provide residential, camping and day trip experiences to Youth Groups and Schools.

Summer Assistant

Salary: National Minimum Wage

Location: Waddecar Scout Activity Centre, Preston, Lancashire

Hours: Core hours 20hrs, up to 37hrs per week

Contract Type: Full time, seasonal. Will include some evenings and weekends.

This role could be residential.

Role Summary:

As the Summer Assistant you will be a main point of contact for groups on Activity trips, ensuring that sessions are safe, fun and engaging for all participants. Activities include archery, climbing & abseiling, raft building and bushcraft. As a key role in a small team, you will also support the running of all aspects of the Centre, including activity equipment maintenance, cleaning, general maintenance, reception and shop cover etc.

Waddecar has a small staff core and a large volunteer team. You will be working with our volunteers, assisting and supporting them in their roles, plus helping to supervise the Summer Volunteer Team of young people during the school holidays.

The Centre is open 7 days a week, so you will be required to do regular weekend work and potentially evenings and bank holidays.

Experience Required:

Essential:             Instructing experience delivering activity sessions to young people

Current First Aid Certificate

Basic climbing experience & activity experience

Desirable:            NSRA YPS Diploma

Archery GB Instructor Award or Scout Archery Permit

Climbing Wall Award or higher / Scout Climbing-Abseiling Permit

Bush Craft / Backwoods skills

Scouting experience.
